The is the muscle behind your thighs
The hamstring is the muscle behind your thighs. It is useful for many things; most people’s flexibilities are determined in the sit and reach test, which is basically testing your hamstring flexibility. The muscle is also used for stabilization purposes, and can contract and move just like any other muscle. More formally, however, the hamstring is the tendons behind the knees. This can be easily seen from the word construction. The word ham refers to the fat and the muscle behind the knees, and string is a reference to tendons. Hence, hamstrings generally refer to the tendons behind the knee and also the muscle underneath.
